The fort was built by the then ruling king, Madho Singh around the year 1613. The famous myth behind the haunting is that of the story of Ratnavati. A tantrik smitten by the princess’ beauty, tried to lure her with black magic but the plan backfired and caused his death. Before dying, he cursed the entire city to death. That was the start of the ruin of Bhangarh.
